Two Teenagers Die in M1 Motorway Crash in Leicestershire

Two teenagers died after the car they were travelling in left a road bridge and crashed into a minibus on the southbound carriageway of the M1 motorway near Lutterworth, Leicestershire, on April 10, 2026.

Leicestershire Police reported that the blue car was travelling along Gilmorton Lane towards Lutterworth when it left the road bridge and collided with the minibus below at about 13:35 BST.

Both teenagers in the car were declared dead at the scene.

The minibus driver and three passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The driver has since been discharged, while three female passengers remain hospitalised.

Emergency services, including firefighters, responded to the crash.

Forensic teams conducted investigations at the scene, which caused significant disruption.

All roads were reopened early on April 11 after the completion of forensic work.

Police have appealed for witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.
