Two in hospital after bus crashes down embankment in the Highlands
An electric bus operated by Ember crashed down an embankment near Granish Junction on the A9 north of Aviemore on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:40 as the bus was turning at the junction while traveling from Inverness to Edinburgh.
Two people were hospitalized following the crash, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed by authorities.
The A9 was closed for about two hours to allow emergency services to respond and clear the scene before reopening.
Passengers reported that the bus tipped while turning, with some thrown forward and sustaining minor injuries such as cuts and bruises.
Only about half of the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time.
Those not seriously injured were transferred to another Ember bus and taken to Aviemore Train Station to continue their journey.
A spokesperson for Ember confirmed the collision and expressed gratitude to emergency responders, stating the company is fully cooperating with police investigations.
It remains unclear what caused the bus to tip at the junction, and investigations are ongoing to determine the factors involved.
