Bravery Awards to Honour Heroes of 2024 Bondi Junction Stabbing

Eight individuals will be recognised for their bravery during the deadly stabbing attack at Bondi Junction shopping centre in Sydney two years ago.

The attack, which occurred in April 2024, resulted in six deaths and ten injuries.

The assailant, Joel Cauchi, was shot dead by police after a psychotic episode.

Among those to be honoured is New South Wales police inspector Amy Scott, who shot Cauchi after he lunged at her with a knife.

Also receiving bravery medals are two French nationals and a security guard who attempted to disarm the attacker.

Two victims will receive posthumous awards: a mother who saved her baby in her final moments and a security guard fatally stabbed on his first day of duty.

The six people who died during the attack were Dawn Singleton, Yixuan Cheng, Jade Young, Ashlee Good, Faraz Tahir, and Pikria Darchia.

The incident remains significant as it highlights the courage of bystanders and emergency responders in the face of sudden violence.

The bravery awards serve to acknowledge those who risked their lives to protect others during the crisis.
