Reform UK's Scottish leader claims Labour collaboration against SNP amid racism accusations

Reform UK's Scottish leader Malcolm Offord has reiterated his claim that Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar sought cooperation to oppose the SNP.

Offord made the allegation during a Channel 4 leaders debate, stating Sarwar approached him earlier in the campaign suggesting Reform and Labour work together to remove the SNP from power.

Sarwar denied the claim, calling it "nonsense" and a "desperate lie from a desperate man." He emphasized that he has no intention of any deal with Reform UK, stating his only commitment is to the people of Scotland.

The dispute unfolded amid accusations of racism and controversy over Reform UK's billboard adverts about asylum seekers.

The adverts depicted a small boat with asylum seekers under the slogan "Scotland is at breaking point," which SNP leader John Swinney criticized as inciting division.

Offord defended the adverts, saying they reflect the views of local Scottish communities, particularly working-class areas, who feel marginalized by current asylum policies.

He highlighted that illegal asylum seekers enter England but then come to Scotland, especially Glasgow.

Sarwar accused Reform UK of racism, referencing previous adverts that questioned his loyalty to Scotland and citing a Reform candidate who allegedly wanted to deport Sarwar's children.

He challenged Offord's account of their interaction, denying any prior cooperation discussions.

The SNP described the alleged Labour-Reform deal as a "grubby deal" and suggested Sarwar would collaborate with Reform if it served his political ambitions.

Meanwhile, Scottish Liberal Democrats leader Alex Cole-Hamilton dismissed talk of any deal between Labour and Reform as "dirty tricks," ruling out cooperation with Reform UK.

This political dispute comes during an election campaign marked by heightened tensions among Scotland's main parties.
