Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti assaulted three times in Israeli prisons, family says

Marwan Barghouti, a prominent Palestinian prisoner serving multiple life sentences in Israel, has reportedly been assaulted three times by Israeli prison guards within the past month.
His family and lawyer have raised concerns about his treatment while in custody.
Barghouti's son, Arab Barghouti, told the BBC that his father was attacked repeatedly, including an incident where guards entered his cell at Megiddo Prison and used a guard dog against him.
Additional assaults occurred during his transfer to another prison and later at Ganot Prison, where he was severely beaten and left bleeding for over two hours without medical care.
The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) has denied these allegations, stating that the claims are "false and baseless" and that all inmates receive medical treatment according to professional guidelines.
They also said they were not aware of any such incidents in their facilities.
Barghouti, 66, has been imprisoned for 24 years after being convicted by an Israeli court for planning deadly attacks against Israeli civilians during the second intifada.
Despite his incarceration, he remains a popular Palestinian leader and a member of the Fatah Central Committee.
His family argues that his prominence as a unifying figure and symbol of hope for Palestinians has made him a target for abuse.
