Ex-Transnational Crime Leader Pleads Guilty to Continuing Criminal Enterprise in Puerto Rico

On April 14, 2026, José Julio Rodríguez-Cumba, also known by several aliases including "Chambi" and "Patrón," pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. The criminal activities spanned from 2011 through May 2024.

Rodríguez-Cumba was formally charged by way of information and arrested on October 4, 2021, in the District of Puerto Rico. His plea resolves charges related to his leadership role within a violent transnational criminal organization.

Under federal sentencing guidelines, he faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 20 years, with the maximum penalty being life imprisonment. This case was handled by the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) based in Puerto Rico.
