Czech Tennis Player Marketa Vondrousova Charged with Refusing Doping Test Citing Mental Stress

Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon women's singles champion, has been charged by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) with refusing a doping test.

The charge follows an incident in December 2025 when Vondrousova denied a doping control officer entry to her home, citing acute stress and anxiety disorder.

The ITIA requires players to comply with out-of-competition doping tests, which involve logging their whereabouts for a designated hour each day.

Vondrousova claims the doping officer did not follow proper protocol during the visit, which occurred late at night, and that she feared for her safety.

If found guilty, Vondrousova could face a ban of up to four years.

However, she has not been provisionally suspended and remains eligible to compete.

She has not played since withdrawing from the Adelaide International in January due to shoulder pain and subsequently missed the Australian Open.

Vondrousova stated on social media that she was at a breaking point after months of physical and mental stress.

She disclosed that experts confirmed she suffered an acute stress reaction and generalized anxiety disorder.
