Bodies of 50 infants and 6 adults found dumped in Trinidad graveyard

At least 50 infant bodies and six adults were discovered unlawfully dumped at a graveyard in Cumuto, Trinidad and Tobago, according to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The town of Cumuto is located approximately 40 kilometers from the capital, Port of Spain, on the island of Trinidad.

The police have launched a preliminary investigation into the incident, which they describe as a possible case of unlawful disposal of unclaimed corpses.

Among the six adults found, five had identification tags, and two showed signs of having undergone post-mortem examinations.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro described the discovery as "deeply troubling" and stated that any individual or institution found responsible would be held fully accountable.

The incident comes amid a renewed state of emergency in Trinidad and Tobago, which grants police extended powers of search and arrest.

This discovery is significant given the country's ongoing challenges with crime, including one of the highest murder rates in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Although violent crime has reportedly decreased since 2024 due to security efforts, crime remains a persistent issue.

The police have not confirmed any direct links between this incident and gang violence.
