Mass shooting in Louisiana kills eight children in domestic violence incident

A gunman killed eight children aged between 1 and 14 years old in a domestic violence shooting across multiple locations in Shreveport, Louisiana, early on Sunday.
Authorities confirmed that a total of 10 people were shot during the incident, which took place at two homes and a third nearby residence south of downtown Shreveport.
The suspect, an adult male, fled the scene in a stolen car but was later fatally shot by police after a chase into Bossier City.
Police said the shootings were the result of a domestic disturbance and that some of the children killed were related to the suspect.
Two women were reportedly shot in the head but survived, and a young boy was injured after jumping from a roof during the incident.
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith described the event as unprecedented and expressed shock at the scale of the tragedy.
This shooting is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States in over two years, marking a significant and tragic escalation in domestic violence-related gun violence in the country.
The incident involved at least four separate but nearby scenes, complicating the ongoing investigation.
Louisiana State Police detectives have been called in to assist Shreveport police with the case.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux called the event "a terrible morning" and possibly the worst tragedy the city has experienced.
He urged the community for patience and prayers as authorities continue their work.
US House Speaker Mike Johnson, representing the district including Shreveport, described the violence as "heartbreaking" and stated that his team is in contact with local law enforcement.
