Elon Musk summoned by French prosecutors amid probe of platform X

Elon Musk has been summoned for a voluntary interview by French prosecutors as part of an ongoing investigation into his social media platform X.
The interview is scheduled to take place in Paris, although it remains uncertain whether Musk will attend.
The investigation, initiated in January 2025 by the Paris prosecutor's cyber-crime unit, expanded after a February raid on X's French offices.
Authorities are probing suspected criminal offenses related to content on the platform, including concerns that X's chatbot Grok was used to create non-consensual sexual deepfake imagery.
French prosecutors are examining allegations of complicity in possession or organised distribution of child sexual abuse material, infringement of image rights through sexual deepfakes, and suspected fraudulent data extraction by an organised group.
Other employees of X are also being interviewed as witnesses.
This investigation highlights increasing regulatory scrutiny of social media platforms regarding harmful content and algorithmic transparency under French law.
It also reflects broader international tensions, as the US Justice Department has declined to assist the French probe, accusing French authorities of misusing the US justice system.
Musk has previously described the investigation as a "political attack" and has a history of not attending court-ordered appearances, including a 2024 SEC investigation in Los Angeles.
