Building Society Cashier Admits Fraud Against Vulnerable Customers to Fund Luxury Holidays

Kelly Kershaw, a cashier at the Caernarfon Nationwide Building Society branch, has admitted to stealing from vulnerable customers over the course of 2023 and 2024.
The fraud was uncovered after colleagues noticed her posting about expensive holidays on social media.
Kershaw, 54, used forged signatures to process unauthorized cash withdrawals from accounts belonging to some of the branch's most vulnerable clients, including an 85-year-old stroke victim and a man with learning difficulties.
She admitted to five counts of fraud at Caernarfon Magistrates' Court.
The stolen funds were used to finance lavish trips abroad, including visits to Paris, Tuscany, Dubai, and a safari in Africa.
Social media posts also showed her enjoying skiing, sailing, and driving a BMW convertible with a personalized number plate.
Nationwide has reimbursed the victims, and compensation of £8,630 was sought.
This case highlights the risks faced by vulnerable banking customers and the importance of internal oversight within financial institutions.
Kershaw had been a trusted employee for 18 years before the offences came to light.
