US Navy Secretary John Phelan Leaves Post Effective Immediately

US Navy Secretary John Phelan has left his position effective immediately, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday.
Navy Undersecretary Hung Cao will serve as acting secretary following Phelan's departure.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed the change via social media, expressing gratitude for Phelan's service to the Department of the Navy.
No official reason was provided for the immediate departure.
Phelan's exit is part of a broader series of high-level military leadership changes within the Pentagon.
This includes the recent removal of Army Chief of Staff Randy George at the request of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as well as the dismissal of other senior army officials such as General David Hodne and Major General William Green.
These leadership changes come amid ongoing tensions related to the US-Israel conflict with Iran and the continued US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Navy Secretary's role involves administrative duties including policy formulation, recruitment, training, equipping the Navy, and overseeing budgeting and logistics.
John Phelan, a civilian and major donor to former President Donald Trump's campaign, was sworn in as Secretary of the Navy in March 2025.
