BBC Undercover Investigation Reveals Drug Sales in West Midlands Mini-Marts

An undercover investigation by the BBC has revealed the open sale of cocaine and cannabis in mini-marts across the West Midlands, including a shop at Cradley Market.
Undercover researchers filmed staff offering drugs for sale, with one employee named Akwa supplying 3.5 grams of cannabis for £30 within seconds and also offering cocaine.
When confronted by the BBC's UK Editor, Akwa denied any wrongdoing and asked the team to leave the premises.
The government is responding by working with West Midlands Police, the National Crime Agency, and Trading Standards to take strong action against these criminal businesses.
A Home Office spokesperson emphasized the commitment to targeting illegal drug sales in retail outlets.
West Midlands Police stated they will continue to collaborate with partners to address complaints related to illegal drug sales, anti-social behaviour, and crime in the area.
This investigation highlights ongoing challenges in controlling illegal drug distribution within public retail environments, raising concerns about community safety and law enforcement effectiveness.
It remains unclear what immediate enforcement actions will follow, but authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to disrupt these activities.
