Woman Killed by Bear in Polish Forest
A 58-year-old woman was fatally attacked by a bear in a remote forest near Płonna in southeastern Poland's Bieszczady region.
The incident occurred while the woman and her 27-year-old son were walking separately in the forest.
The son reported hearing his mother scream "Bear, bear!" during a phone call before the line went dead.
Emergency services were alerted by the son and arrived at the scene, but the woman was found dead with extensive head injuries.
The terrain and poor phone reception delayed access for rescue teams.
Local authorities have urged the public to avoid forest areas near Płonna following the fatal attack.
Poland is home to approximately 100 brown bears, primarily in the Bieszczady region.
Fatal bear attacks are extremely rare in the country, with the last recorded deadly incident occurring in 2014.
The woman and her son had been collecting antlers during the stag shedding season when the attack happened.
