Shooting at Mall of Louisiana Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

A shooting erupted on April 23, 2026, inside the food court at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge after an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire.

Baton Rouge police confirmed that one person was killed and five others were injured and hospitalized following the exchange of gunfire.

The injured included some innocent bystanders, with at least two victims requiring surgery.

All were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident began around 1:22 p.m. local time, when police received calls reporting gunfire in the food court area.

Authorities, including the Baton Rouge Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are actively investigating and searching for suspects.

Video surveillance footage showed the two groups arguing before opening fire on each other.

Police urged witnesses to share any video footage they may have.

Baton Rouge Mayor Sid Edwards condemned the attack and assured the public that law enforcement is committed to apprehending those responsible.

Police Chief TJ Morse described the shooting as targeted and noted that several people involved fled the scene as officers arrived.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people running and seeking safety.

Some individuals inside the mall were moved to secure holding areas while others were escorted to their vehicles.
