Allegations of Bullying and Financial Misconduct Surface at UK's Largest Pride Event

Leaders of the UK's largest Pride festival, Pride in London (PIL), have faced allegations of bullying and financial misconduct under the leadership of former CEO Christopher Joell-Deshields.

An investigation revealed that complaints about bullying and questionable financial decisions were not addressed for years.

Volunteers reported misuse of a company credit card for a holiday to Mykonos and concerns over a lack of transparency regarding Joell-Deshields' £87,500 salary.

Joell-Deshields was sacked earlier this month amid a protracted civil dispute with PIL.

He has admitted to two counts of contempt of court for failing to comply with a legal order to return company property, including access to bank accounts and internal systems.

However, he denied contempt related to a company laptop, which he claims was personally purchased.

The dispute also involves allegations that Joell-Deshields spent thousands of pounds worth of volunteer vouchers, donated by a sponsor, on personal items such as luxury perfumes and Apple gadgets.

PIL's lawyers argued that withholding company property was an attempt to obstruct an internal investigation into these claims.

PIL has stated it is committed to maintaining high standards of governance, accountability, and integrity.

Pride in London is a major annual event featuring a parade, a festival in Trafalgar Square, and several fringe activities.

It is largely funded through corporate sponsorships and costs over £1.3 million to stage each year.

The event attracts nearly two million visitors to London, with the next parade scheduled for 4 July.
