Five-year-old Australian girl missing, believed abducted in Outback

Australian police are searching for a five-year-old girl named Sharon, who is believed to have been abducted from an Aboriginal town camp in Alice Springs.

The girl was last seen just before midnight on Saturday when she was put to bed at her family home in the Old Timers camp.

Authorities have identified 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis as a person of interest.

Lewis, who was staying at the camp, disappeared around the same time as Sharon's disappearance and has a known history of domestic and family violence offences.

Northern Territory Police Acting Commander Mark Grieve confirmed that Lewis remains unaccounted for and is one of the few people present at the camp who has not come forward to police.

He appealed to the public for any information that could assist in locating Sharon.

The search operation involves police officers, volunteers, a dog squad, drone units, and a helicopter combing the bush and desert areas surrounding the camp.

Commander Grieve expressed the urgency of the situation, noting the distressing nature of a young child going missing.

Sharon was last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt with a white ring around the neck and sleeves, and black boxer-style underwear.
