Israeli Airstrikes Kill Eight in Southern Lebanon Including Rescue Workers

Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of eight people, including three rescue workers, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

The strikes targeted multiple towns in the south, including Majdal Zoun, Jebchit, and Jwaya.

The health ministry reported that five people were killed in Majdal Zoun, among them three paramedics from the Lebanese Civil Defence who were trapped under rubble while conducting rescue operations.

Additional casualties included two killed and 13 injured in Jebchit, and one killed with 15 injured, including children and women, in Jwaya.

The Lebanese army confirmed that two of its troops were wounded during an Israeli strike targeting an army patrol escorting the civil defence workers.

This was the first official acknowledgment of Lebanese army personnel being targeted since the ceasefire began.

The Israeli military also reported the death of an employee working for an engineering company on behalf of its Ministry of Defence in southern Lebanon.

Israel had issued a fresh evacuation order urging residents of over a dozen villages and towns in southern Lebanon to move northwards immediately.

The Israeli army's spokesman communicated this directive via social media, emphasizing the urgency of the evacuation.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, describing the targeting and killing of civil defence emergency workers as a "heinous crime" and a violation of international humanitarian law.

He pledged to mobilize efforts in international forums to hold Israel accountable and to stop ongoing ceasefire violations.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also denounced the attacks, stating that Israel continues to violate international laws protecting civilians and humanitarian workers.
