Unlawfully Present Mexican National Pleads Guilty to Border Patrol Agent Impersonation in US

Jaime Ernesto Alvarez-Gonzalez, a Mexico citizen unlawfully present in the United States, pleaded guilty in federal court to impersonating a U.S. The offense occurred on January 8, 2026, in San Diego, California.

Alvarez-Gonzalez closely followed an actual Border Patrol agent while driving a black Ford F-150 truck that was altered to appear as an undercover Border Patrol vehicle. The truck displayed a Border Patrol sticker on the windshield, had non-functioning radio communication antennae mounted on the roof, a lightbar on the dashboard, and a license plate frame labeled "Ferderal Truck" (sic.).

Handcuffs were also hung from the rear-view mirror. This impersonation aimed to disrupt Border Patrol deportation missions.

The defendant's actions constituted unauthorized use of official insignia and illegal possession of firearms in connection to the impersonation. Federal authorities pursued charges related to the incident, resulting in Alvarez-Gonzalez's guilty plea.

The case highlights law enforcement vigilance against impersonation offenses that undermine border enforcement operations.
