US House votes to end 76-day partial government shutdown

The US House of Representatives has voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ending a 76-day partial government shutdown.

The shutdown, the longest in DHS history, began on 14 February and caused significant disruptions including hours-long delays at airports across the country.

Members of the House approved a Senate-passed bill by voice vote, restoring funding to much of DHS.

However, the legislation does not include new funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or the US Border Patrol.

The bill is now awaiting the signature of President Donald Trump, who has expressed support for the measure.

The shutdown had stalled many federal operations under DHS, impacting security and administrative functions.

The restoration of funding will allow these agencies to resume normal activities and reduce ongoing disruptions.

This development is significant as it ends a prolonged funding impasse that highlighted divisions within the US political landscape.

Bipartisan cooperation was necessary to break the deadlock and pass the funding bill.
