Israeli airstrikes kill at least 12 in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire

Israeli forces conducted multiple airstrikes in southern Lebanon on May 1, 2026, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people, including children and women.

The strikes targeted residential neighborhoods and other locations despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.

Eight people were killed in the town of Habboush in the Nabatieh district, with at least eight others wounded, including a child and a woman.

Additional strikes in the area of Zrariyeh killed four more people, two of whom were women, and wounded several others.

The Lebanese Civilian Defence reported extensive destruction in southern Lebanon, including the flattening of buildings in Tyre and other areas.

Israeli forces demolished houses, a convent, and a school during the attacks.

Prior to the strikes in Habboush, Israeli military issued a forced evacuation order, instructing residents to move at least 1,000 meters away.

These attacks occurred despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States on April 17, 2026, which was intended to halt hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The ceasefire has been extended to May 17 but has seen multiple violations.

Since hostilities began on March 2, 2026, over 2,600 people have been killed and more than 8,000 wounded in Lebanon, according to the Ministry of Public Health's Emergency Operations Center.

The majority of casualties have been civilians.

Israel has stated that its strikes target Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese group, which has continued attacks on Israeli forces and vehicles inside Lebanon.
