Police probe possible link between Brixton drive-by shooting and nearby stabbing

Police in south London are investigating whether a drive-by shooting in Brixton that injured four people is connected to a stabbing about an hour later nearby.

The two attacks happened on Saturday morning and left two men in a life-threatening condition.

The shooting took place on Coldharbour Lane at about 01:15 BST, when a car approached from the other side of the road and fired seven shots, according to a witness account.

Four people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

A 25-year-old man was left in a life-threatening condition, while three others aged 21, 47 and 70 suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The stabbing victim, a 33-year-old man found on Acre Lane about 700m away, had multiple stab wounds and remains critically injured.

The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made in connection with either attack and officers are examining the possibility that the incidents are linked.

The London Ambulance Service treated four patients at the scene of the shooting, taking two to a major trauma centre and two to a local hospital.

The case matters because it involves two serious violent incidents in the same area within a short period, raising questions about whether they were part of the same sequence of events.
