Starmer to host Downing Street summit on antisemitism

Sir Keir Starmer is due to host senior business, culture and policing figures at Downing Street on Tuesday as the government steps up efforts to tackle antisemitism across society.

The summit is being presented as part of a "whole of society" approach, with ministers and sector leaders asked to consider how antisemitism appears in their areas and what more can be done to address it.

The home secretary, communities secretary, health secretary, education secretary and culture secretary are each expected to chair meetings with leaders from their sectors.

Representatives from business, civil society, health, culture, higher education and policing are also due to take part in round-table discussions with members of the Jewish community.

The meeting follows a series of suspected antisemitic incidents in recent months, including the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green on 29 April.

The prime minister is also expected to convene ministers later in the day for a Middle East Response Committee meeting focused on the domestic security implications of the conflict in the Middle East.

No 10 said the discussions would examine the forms antisemitism takes in different sectors, the work already under way to tackle it and where further action is needed.

The government has said it wants to "eradicate antisemitism from every corner of society".

In remarks prepared for the summit, Mr Starmer is expected to describe the Golders Green attack as part of a wider pattern of rising antisemitism that has left Jewish communities feeling frightened and unsafe.
