Jo Shaw and ex-partner named after Bristol house explosion

Police have named the two people killed in a house explosion in Frenchay, Bristol, and said the death of Jo Shaw is being treated as a homicide.

Officers said the blast at an address on Sterncourt Road is being investigated as suspicious.

Ms Shaw, 35, and her former partner Ryan Kelly, 41, died in the explosion at about 06:30 BST on Sunday.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called minutes earlier to a domestic-related incident at the property.

The force said three other people, including the person who phoned police from inside the house, were treated for minor injuries and did not need hospital admission.

It added that specially trained officers are supporting the victims' families.

Police said they would make a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because of previous police contact with Ms Shaw before Sunday.

That contact related to other domestic incidents.

The case matters now because investigators are trying to establish how the explosion happened and whether there was any warning before it.
