Met Police deploys 100-officer team after attacks on Jewish sites in London

London's Metropolitan Police is deploying a dedicated 100-officer Community Protection Team after a series of attacks on Jewish sites and a double stabbing in Golders Green that is being treated as terrorism.

The force said the new team will include officers from neighbourhood policing, specialist protection and counter-terrorism capabilities.

It said the officers will be locally based and work closely with residents, schools, faith leaders and volunteers.

The announcement comes after about 50 people were arrested and eight charged in recent weeks over antisemitic hate crimes in London, according to the force.

Those incidents included attacks on synagogues, a Jewish ambulance charity and a memorial wall in Golders Green.

The move is intended to strengthen protection for Jewish communities in the capital at a time of heightened concern.

The Community Security Trust, which works to protect British Jews from antisemitism, welcomed the announcement and said it sent a strong message to would-be offenders.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said the new team was an important step in responding to what he described as sustained threats facing Jewish communities.

He said longer-term investment would be needed to maintain the response.
