Israeli strike in Gaza City wounds Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya's son

An Israeli air attack in Gaza City has killed one person and seriously wounded the son of Hamas political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya, according to the latest confirmed reports from the territory.

The strike hit the Daraj neighbourhood on Wednesday and left at least nine other Palestinians wounded, medics said.

The man killed was identified as Hamza al-Sharbasi.

Al-Hayya said his son, Azzam, was seriously wounded in the attack.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

The incident matters because al-Hayya is Hamas's top negotiator in indirect talks with Israel, making the strike politically significant as well as militarily damaging.

It came amid a wider day of Israeli raids across Gaza that also caused further deaths and injuries.

Two other air raids on the same day killed four more Palestinians, including a senior colonel in Gaza's police force.

One strike in northern Gaza City's Zeitoun neighbourhood killed three people from one family as they tried to set up a tent near the Salah al-Din Mosque.
