Iranian president says he met Mojtaba Khamenei amid health rumours

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said he met Mojtaba Khamenei in person for two and a half hours, in the first public confirmation from a senior official that the newly appointed ayatollah has been seen since taking up the role more than two months ago.

Pezeshkian made the remarks at a meeting with trade unions and market representatives.

He gave no details on when or where the meeting took place, what was discussed, or who else was present, and said the exchange was "completely unmediated".

The comments come after weeks of speculation about Mojtaba Khamenei's health and public absence.

Since his appointment by the Assembly of Experts, he has made no public appearance and released no video or audio material, although statements reportedly authored by him have been read on state television.

The renewed attention matters because Mojtaba Khamenei's status has become tied to wider questions about succession and continuity within Iran's leadership.

The lack of official detail has left room for competing claims about his condition.

Earlier reports cited Iranian officials saying he had suffered serious injuries in strikes and undergone multiple surgeries, but Tehran has not confirmed those accounts.

Separate references in Iranian media have also added to the uncertainty around his public role.
