United States Authorities search home linked to Kristin Smart case in Arroyo Grande
Authorities in California are searching a home connected to the Kristin Smart case as part of a continuing investigation into her disappearance and killing.
The search entered a second day on Thursday, according to law enforcement.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office served a warrant on Wednesday at a home in Arroyo Grande occupied by Susan Flores, the mother of Paul Flores.
Paul Flores was convicted in 2022 in connection with Smart's death and sentenced to 25 years to life.
The sheriff's office said it remains committed to bringing Kristin Smart home to her family.
The county district attorney's office said it was helping with the investigation, while no further information was released.
The renewed search shows the case remains active nearly three decades after Smart disappeared in 1996 after returning from a party at California Polytechnic State University.
Her remains have never been found, and she was declared legally dead in 2002.
Prosecutors had alleged that Smart was killed during an attempted rape and that Flores was the last person seen with her.
