China investment in Brazil reaches US$6.1bn, report says

Chinese companies invested US$6.1bn in Brazil in 2025, making the country Beijing's top destination for overseas investment, according to a report cited on Thursday.

The figure was up 45% from the previous year and far outpaced the 4.8% rise in total foreign investment into Brazil.

It also exceeded the 1.3% growth in China's worldwide outbound flows.

The report said Brazil accounted for 10.9% of all Chinese overseas capital, ahead of the US at 6.8%.

Chinese miners, carmakers and technology firms were active across 20 Brazilian states.

The findings matter because they point to a broader shift in Chinese capital towards sectors such as mining, manufacturing and green energy in Latin America's largest economy.

The report's author said the headline number was less important than where the money was going.

Mining investment more than tripled, while Chinese carmakers opened factories on sites vacated by Western manufacturers.

Technology firms, including Meituan's food delivery arm, also launched operations in Brazil.
