Parents sentenced over fatal abuse of two-year-old Kol Page in London

A mother and her boyfriend have been sentenced to a combined 27 years in prison after being found responsible for fatal injuries to her two-year-old son, Kol Page.

The sentencing took place at Southwark Crown Court in London.

Zoe Coutts, 35, was jailed for 10 years and Scott O'Connor, 36, received 18 years.

Prosecutors said Kol was found not breathing in April 2022 with bruising to his face and an injury to his abdomen.

The court heard that the injuries were so severe they were compared with those seen in a serious road traffic accident or a fall from a height onto a hard object.

Kol spent two years trying to recover before dying in June 2024.

The case matters because it ends a long-running child abuse investigation with prison terms for both defendants and confirms the scale of the harm suffered by the child.

It also highlights the difficulty of establishing what happened in the period before emergency treatment.

According to the court account, the pair tried to mislead medics and detectives about how Kol was injured.
