Iran sends response to US proposal to end war, reports say
Iran has sent its response to a US proposal aimed at ending the more than two-month war, according to Iranian state media.
The reported reply was delivered through Pakistan, with Qatar also involved in the wider mediation effort.
The proposal is said to focus first on a temporary memorandum of understanding to halt fighting and keep traffic moving through the Strait of Hormuz while talks continue.
The longer-term issues would include disputes over Iran's nuclear programme.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said recent US military activity in the Persian Gulf and what he described as violations of the ceasefire had increased doubts about Washington's intentions, according to Iranian media.
US officials have said it would be unacceptable for Tehran to control the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key shipping route for global oil exports, so any arrangement affecting access to it has wider economic and security implications.
The reported talks also come as both sides weigh whether a truce can be extended into formal peace negotiations.
The latest diplomacy follows a period of rising tension, including drone launches at several targets in the Gulf.
