UAE backs marine protection measures at IMO committee session in London
The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the 84th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee in London. The session was organised by the International Maritime Organisation as MEPC 84.
According to the source, several proposals submitted by the UAE were adopted with the support of a majority of member states. Among the adopted measures was a resolution focused on protecting the marine environment in the Arabian Sea, the Sea of Oman and the Gulf region.
The resolution specifically covers areas in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The source says the measures are intended to contribute to enhanced maritime safety and security in the region.
The UAE said its participation forms part of its continuing commitment to international efforts aimed at protecting the marine environment and improving the sustainability of the maritime transport sector. It also said the engagement reflects its strategic vision for marine protection and for achieving climate neutrality.
