CBUAE imposes AED1,820,000 sanction on foreign bank branch in UAE
The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has imposed a financial sanction of AED1,820,000 on a branch of a foreign bank licensed to operate in the UAE. The measure was announced from Abu Dhabi on 6 July 2026 and cited Federal Decree-Law No. (6) of 2025 governing the Central Bank, financial institutions, activities, and insurance business.

According to the CBUAE, the sanction followed examinations that found the branch failed to issue a liability letter within the required seven-day period. The regulator said this constituted a breach of its Market Conduct and Consumer Protection Regulations and Standards.
The central bank said its supervisory and regulatory mandate is to ensure that banks, their leadership, and employees comply with UAE laws and with CBUAE regulations and standards. It said this is intended to safeguard transparency and integrity in the banking sector and the UAE financial system.
