Israeli air strike kills two Hamas security officials in Gaza's Deir al-Balah

An Israeli air strike has killed two Hamas security officials in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah, according to the group's interior ministry. Among those killed was Colonel Wael Musa al-Ladawi, who the ministry said headed Hamas's internal security service in central Gaza. The second man killed was named as Ramez Tawfiq Abu Zureiq.

The strike hit the car the two men were travelling in on Sunday, the ministry said. Footage posted online showed a charred vehicle in the middle of the road, with smoke obscuring the scene. The bodies of both men were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, according to the report.

The killing adds to a series of Israeli attacks in Gaza despite a notional ceasefire that took effect on October 10. Hamas said the continued strikes were part of an Israeli effort to create chaos in Gaza by destroying state institutions and making the territory impossible to administer. On Saturday, the head of the Hamas police force in northern Gaza was also killed in an Israeli attack, with Israel saying he was a member of Hamas's military wing.

The incident is significant because it targets figures linked to Hamas's internal security apparatus, which plays a role in maintaining order in areas under the group's control. It also comes as peace talks have stalled and the Board of Peace, established by United States President Donald Trump, has yet to produce any visible progress.
