Deadly militant attack on Pakistan checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaves 15 dead

At least 15 people were killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to local media reports cited by officials. The assault took place late Wednesday in Hangu district, a border area that has seen repeated militant violence in recent days. Local District Police Officer Tariq Habib said at least seven police officers and eight alleged militants were among the dead. The checkpoint was hit in the evening, and no group immediately claimed responsibility. According to the reports, the attackers used an explosives-laden vehicle to ram the security post before the exchange of fire that followed.

The incident adds to a recent rise in attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan and has been described by authorities as a volatile security zone.
