EU raises support for Djibouti Armed Forces to EUR 20 million

The Council has agreed to strengthen EU support for the Djibouti Armed Forces under an existing assistance measure adopted in 2025 through the European Peace Facility. The financial reference amount will increase from EUR 10 million to EUR 20 million.

According to the Council, the amendment reflects a deeper EU-Djibouti partnership in security and defence. The support is tied to Djibouti's efforts to enhance maritime security in the region and is intended to reinforce the operational readiness of the Djiboutian Navy.

The Council said the decision also forms part of broader EU efforts to respond to the deteriorating security situation in and around the Red Sea and to safeguard freedom of navigation. It noted that implementation of the original measure is already underway and that the higher funding level will allow the EU to further assist the Djibouti Armed Forces in strengthening maritime security in the current geopolitical context.
