Pennsylvania home shooting leaves nine dead, including pregnant woman and children
Nine people, including the suspected gunman, were found dead after a shooting at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, police said. The victims included a pregnant woman, children and other relatives, according to officials. Officers were called to the scene after a gunshot detection alert and arrived within minutes, as the investigation continued.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said the 45-year-old man was related to seven of the victims, while the eighth victim was a friend of the pregnant woman. He said video and audio evidence recovered by investigators showed muffled gunshots coming from inside the home before two distressed women arrived and began pounding on the door shortly before 5pm local time on Friday. The gunman then came out and shot them as they ran toward him, before going back inside, Mr Lorah said.
Police later used a drone and a robot before entering the house, where they found the bodies of a five-year-old boy, a one-year-old girl, two more women and two young men in a stairwell, along with the shooter on the second floor. Officers also found the two women who had been shot outside the home dead at the scene. District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz urged the public not to speculate while the inquiry remained active, and Mr Lorah said he would not discuss the details of what officers encountered inside the house.
The shooting has drawn attention because it involved multiple family members and a pregnant woman, as well as children, in a single home. It also highlights the use of ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system that relies on artificial intelligence and microphones to identify possible gunfire. In this case, police said the alert helped bring officers to the property within minutes, underlining how such systems are used in fast-moving violent incidents.

The case is likely to raise further questions about domestic violence, family-linked killings and the limits of early intervention in mass casualty events. Officials have not said what prompted the shooting, and investigators have not publicly identified a motive. Mr Lorah said investigators would speak to other relatives and examine the mobile phones of the women who were killed outside the home.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was mentioned in the reporting, but no further details were provided about any state response. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released a full account of the sequence of events inside the house. What remains unclear is whether any warning signs were missed and whether additional evidence will clarify why the shooting happened.
