Two Iranian security personnel killed in separate attacks near Chabahar in Sistan-Baluchestan
At least two Iranian security personnel have been killed in separate incidents in Sistan-Baluchestan province near the border with Pakistan, according to Iranian reports. The killings took place in Mehrestan district, an area that has seen repeated attacks in recent weeks. The incidents add to growing security concerns around the Chabahar port region, which sits on Iran's eastern flank.

One of the victims was an officer who commanded a women's unit in the Basij paramilitary force, which is part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. She was shot dead outside her home in Mehrestan on Wednesday, according to the report. In a separate attack in the same district, another officer was killed when a police vehicle came under attack.
The reports did not give further details on the identities of the attackers. The latest killings come amid a tense security environment in the province, where military helicopters were reported circling over Iranshahr on Wednesday. A rights group focused on the Baluch minority said the situation remained tense in several locations.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly described the violence in the area as the work of armed groups they say are supported from outside the country. Sistan-Baluchestan is strategically important because it contains Chabahar port, a key facility on Iran's eastern coast. The area has also been linked in recent months to attacks on security personnel and patrols, including incidents involving a minibus carrying security staff and a police convoy.

The repeated violence has underlined the vulnerability of a province that borders Pakistan and has long been a focus of Iranian security operations. Earlier this month, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had killed at least two suspected attackers and destroyed what it described as a terrorist cell near Chabahar port. That operation followed the killing of a member of Iran's security forces at a checkpoint near Rasak, according to the same account.
The Guard also said it recovered a Starlink device and a quantity of weapons from a mountainous hideout, indicating the authorities' concern about the organisation and equipment of the groups they are pursuing. What remains unclear is who carried out the two latest attacks and whether they are linked to the earlier incidents reported in the same border area. It is also not clear whether the heightened security response, including helicopter patrols, has led to any arrests or further clashes.
The situation in Mehrestan and around Chabahar is likely to remain under close watch as Iranian authorities continue their operations in the province.
