Joint Force Refines Chemical, Biological Defense Capabilities

At Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, U.S. Army and Department of War organizations held a major training exercise focused on chemical and biological defense. The exercise sought to refine operational procedures and enhance force protection measures during potential chemical or biological attacks, a growing concern for modern battlefield readiness.

Approximately 20 to 30 personnel participated in a critical multi-domain training event aimed at assessing and sharpening battle drills necessary for responding effectively to suspected biological incidents. This hands-on approach enables soldiers to practice contamination detection, mitigation, and operational continuity in a hostile environment.

This event is part of a broader transformation initiative driven by the Secretary of War to accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge capabilities to the warfighter. A notable upgrade demonstrated during the exercise included a new command-and-control system that allows a single CBRN soldier to monitor complex environments more efficiently, significantly improving operational command and control.

The training underscores the U.S. military’s commitment to remaining agile and resilient against emerging threats, particularly those involving weapons of mass destruction. Preparing forces to operate confidently under chemical or biological attack not only safeguards troop safety but also ensures mission assurance, critical to maintaining battlefield superiority.
