Over 816,000 Displaced in Lebanon Amid Israeli Airstrike Campaign, UNHCR Warns

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has confirmed that over 816,700 people have been registered as displaced within Lebanon due to recent Israeli airstrikes. The displacement crisis has left many families without safe shelter, as collective government-designated shelters are now nearly 90% occupied.

The humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, with UNHCR highlighting severe funding shortages—only 14% of the required funds for aid operations in Lebanon have been secured. To date, approximately 168,000 relief packages have been distributed to more than 63,000 displaced individuals across 270 collective shelters, in cooperation with Lebanese authorities.

This displacement exacerbates Lebanon’s fragile security and social stability, straining local resources and infrastructure. The ongoing violence and the strain on shelters risk worsening public health and safety. Immediate and increased funding and unobstructed humanitarian access are critical to prevent further suffering among displaced civilians.

The scale and pace of displacement underscore the potential for greater regional instability, as more civilians face prolonged insecurity and deprivation amid the conflict. The UN calls for urgent international support to address the mounting needs and safeguard vulnerable populations.
