US Border Agents Seize 7 AK-47s and 11,000 Rounds at Douglas Port of Entry

On February 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Raul H. Castro Port of Entry in Douglas, Arizona, stopped a 24-year-old U.S. citizen driving a Dodge Ram 1500 who was attempting to enter Mexico. Upon further inspection, officers found seven AK-47 rifles and 11,000 rounds of ammunition concealed in several packages inside the vehicle.
The weapons and the vehicle were confiscated, and the driver was arrested and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for further legal action. This incident underscores the persistent efforts by U.S. border agencies to intercept illegal arms trafficking aimed at cross-border criminal activities.
Such seizures are critical for regional security, as the flow of weapons contributes to violence and instability on both sides of the border. Preventing these weapons from reaching criminal networks helps protect communities in the United States and Mexico.
The arrest and evidence collection will support law enforcement efforts to dismantle smuggling networks and reinforce the importance of robust border enforcement amid ongoing concerns around illegal trade and violence in border regions.
