Qatar Achieves Nearly Full Self-Sufficiency in Vegetables and Poultry, Secures Supply Chains

Qatar has made significant progress in food self-sufficiency, with local production now covering 100% of key vegetables and 99% of fresh poultry consumption, according to the Minister of Municipality, Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah. This achievement marks a critical step in strengthening the country’s food security, especially amid global supply chain disruptions.
The minister’s visit to several Qatari farms was part of ongoing efforts to monitor and boost the nation’s agricultural output. The near-complete self-sufficiency reduces Qatar’s reliance on food imports, enhancing its resilience against external economic shocks and geopolitical tensions.
Key government officials, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipality and other agricultural authorities, accompanied the minister, underscoring a coordinated approach. By securing stable supply chains and expanding local production capacities, Qatar aims to safeguard its population’s food needs and maintain economic stability.
This development is particularly relevant as countries worldwide reassess their food supply vulnerabilities. Qatar's success could serve as a model for similarly import-dependent nations seeking to bolster their agricultural sectors in volatile global markets.
