US Customs Seize 46 Pounds of Illegal Drugs from Shipment Labeled as Mini Fridge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Louisville, Kentucky, intercepted a shipment from France that was falsely declared as containing a mini fridge. Upon inspection triggered by a CBP canine alert, officers found 12 boxes inside the shipment. Seven of those boxes contained a total of 23 pounds of Ethylpentedrone Hydrochloride, a potent and illegal stimulant with no recognized medical use, and known for causing severe health risks such as cardiac arrest and paranoia.
The other five boxes held 23 pounds of Ketamine, a drug with legitimate medical applications but also a known substance of abuse. The seizure is significant as Ethylpentedrone abuse is notably common among youth and young adults, raising concerns about distribution networks targeting vulnerable populations.
This interception underscores the ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to combat the trafficking of synthetic drugs and controlled substances entering the country via international shipments. The success of the seizure prevents potentially widespread distribution and associated public health crises.
The shipment’s false labeling and concealment tactics reveal the sophisticated methods drug traffickers use to evade detection, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and advanced detection capabilities at U.S. ports of entry.
