Drone Strikes Hit Odesa Hospital and Schools, Killing 2 and Injuring Dozens

In a series of deadly drone attacks overnight, Ukrainian authorities report that two civilians were killed and 12 others injured in Odesa, a key Black Sea port city. The assaults damaged Maternity Hospital No.5—one of five UN-supported maternity facilities struck this year—alongside three educational institutions. Despite severe structural damage, no patients were harmed inside the hospital thanks to the use of an underground shelter.
Authorities evacuated 32 new mothers and 22 newborns to other medical facilities amid mounting concerns over attacks on healthcare centers, which violate international humanitarian law. These strikes exacerbate the plight of civilians caught in the fighting and raise alarms globally over the targeting of protected medical sites.
The violence extended to the Mykolaiv region, where a child was killed and additional residents, including children, were injured during separate attacks. The ongoing drone strikes signify escalating risks to civilian populations in Ukraine as the conflict continues to intensify.
These attacks amplify the humanitarian crisis and pose severe challenges to relief efforts, signaling a troubling pattern of assault on civilian infrastructure in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
