Trump deletes Jesus-like AI image after backlash

US President Donald Trump removed a controversial post from his social media platform depicting himself as a Jesus-like figure healing a sick man.

The AI-generated image showed Trump in a white robe with a glowing hand on the forehead of a patient in a hospital bed.

The post was deleted following widespread criticism from across the US political spectrum, including some of Trump's own supporters.

The image included symbolic elements such as the Statue of Liberty, a large US flag, fighter jets, an eagle, a nurse, a praying woman, and a soldier in uniform.

Trump acknowledged posting the picture and said he believed it depicted him as a doctor alongside a Red Cross worker.

"It's supposed to be as a doctor making people better," he told reporters.

Criticism was swift and came from various quarters, including Christian activists and faith-based news outlets.

Sean Feucht, a Christian activist involved in faith-based events for the US Declaration of Independence anniversary, called for the image's immediate deletion, stating there was no acceptable context for it.

Conservative activist Riley Gaines said, "God shall not be mocked." David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network said the image "goes too far" and "crosses the line." The post appeared less than an hour after Trump criticised Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, calling him "weak on crime" and "terrible for foreign policy." The pope has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran, condemning the violence as "absurd and inhuman." This incident matters as it highlights the ongoing tensions within US political and religious discourse, especially involving the president's use of social media to convey controversial imagery and messages.
