Man on trial for attempting to climb Israeli embassy fence in London with knives

Abdullah Albadri was arrested on 28 April last year while trying to scale the fence of the Israeli embassy in London carrying two knives.

He is currently on trial at the Old Bailey charged with preparing terrorist acts and possession of weapons.

Armed diplomatic protection officers detained Albadri as he attempted to climb the 8-foot (2.4m) high fence.

Earlier that day, he sent a message to his mother stating, "I chose the path of martyrdom." Police seized several pieces of paper from him, including a handwritten martyrdom note which he had photographed and sent to his mother via WhatsApp.

The prosecution described the note as written by someone who intends to die or expects to be killed in pursuit of a specific religious, political, or ideological cause.

Court proceedings revealed that Albadri had entered the UK twice by small boat from France, first on 5 August 2021 and again on 12 April 2024.

After his second arrival, he was given temporary accommodation at a hotel in Hampshire and engaged with charities assisting asylum seekers.

In the days leading up to the incident, Albadri was in contact with organisations supporting asylum seekers and members of the Kuwaiti community in London.

The prosecution also noted that on 24 April, he was searching for the Israeli embassy on his phone and looking up religious law about suicide.
