US Navy Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship Touska After Warning Ignored

The US Navy has seized the Iranian-flagged cargo ship Touska in the Gulf of Oman after the vessel ignored warnings to stop, escalating tensions in the region.

US President Donald Trump announced the interception on his social media platform, stating that the ship was stopped by a US guided missile destroyer after failing to comply with orders.

According to Trump, the USS Spruance fired on the Touska, hitting its engine room and disabling the vessel.

US Marines have since taken custody of the ship and are inspecting its contents.

The Touska is subject to US Treasury sanctions due to its prior history of illegal activity.

Iran's military condemned the action as a violation of the ceasefire currently in place since April 8, describing the US operation as "armed piracy." A spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters vowed that Iran would soon respond and retaliate against the US Navy's actions.

This incident occurs amid a US naval blockade of Iranian ports, which was announced by President Trump following unsuccessful negotiations earlier this month aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran.

The blockade and related hostilities have heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.

The conflict began with US and Israeli strikes across Iran on February 28 and has involved multiple waves of attacks across the Middle East.

A two-week truce was declared but has been fragile, with ceasefire violations reported.

Iran briefly reopened the Strait of Hormuz in recognition of an Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire in Lebanon but closed it again after the US maintained its blockade.

Tehran has not confirmed participation in upcoming peace talks in Pakistan, citing the ongoing blockade as a barrier.
