Colombian Mercenaries Backed by UAE Aided Sudan's RSF in El-Fasher Capture

A recent investigation has revealed that Colombian mercenaries supported by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) played a crucial role in Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) capturing the western city of el-Fasher last year.
The report, conducted by the Conflict Insights Group (CIG), used mobile phone tracking data to confirm the involvement of these mercenaries and their connection to UAE bases.
The CIG tracked over 50 mobile phones belonging to Colombian fighters operating in Sudan between April 2025 and January 2026.
The data showed that mercenaries involved in drone operations traveled from a UAE base to Sudan prior to the RSF's takeover of el-Fasher.
Some mercenaries even named their wi-fi networks after their units, which were linked to a UAE-operated company.
El-Fasher's fall marked one of the most brutal episodes in Sudan's ongoing conflict, which has lasted for three years and resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions displaced.
The RSF has been engaged in fighting against Sudan's regular army, contributing to what is considered the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
This investigation is significant as it provides the first concrete evidence of direct UAE involvement in supporting the RSF, despite the UAE's repeated denials.
The CIG director, Justin Lynch, stated that the findings confirm what governments have long suspected about the link between Abu Dhabi and the RSF.
