Israeli air strike kills five Palestinians in northern Gaza

An Israeli drone strike near a mosque in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, killed five Palestinians, including three children, on the evening of April 22, 2026.

The victims were identified as Abdullah al-Abed, 9, Salah al-Abed, 12, Mohammad Balousha, 14, Alaa Balousha, 46, and Anas Abu Foul, 19.

The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted a "terrorist" who had approached Israeli troops near the Yellow Line, a boundary marking Israeli-held territory, and posed an immediate threat.

Palestinian officials and medics confirmed the fatalities and the location of the strike near a mosque.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that since the ceasefire came into effect in October 2025, at least 786 Palestinians have been killed and 2,200 injured in Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military reported four soldier deaths from attacks by Palestinian armed groups during the same period.

Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.

This incident highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire in Gaza, which has been in place since October 2025 but remains vulnerable to escalations.

The ongoing conflict traces back to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in October 2023, which resulted in significant casualties and a subsequent Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
