Trump safe after shots fired at White House Correspondents' Dinner; suspect apprehended

US President Donald Trump was evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday evening after gunshots were fired near the event.
The shooting occurred outside the ballroom where the president, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D.
Vance, and cabinet members were seated before the start of the annual media gala.
The suspect, armed with multiple weapons including a shotgun, was taken into custody by the Secret Service after charging a security checkpoint.
President Trump described the individual as a "thug" who attacked the US Constitution and confirmed that the suspect was "totally subdued" by officers.
One Secret Service officer was shot but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest.
The officer's condition is stable.
No other attendees were harmed during the incident.
The shooting caused panic among the approximately 2,600 guests, with many taking cover under tables as shots rang out.
Secret Service agents quickly evacuated the president and other officials from the ballroom, and tactical teams secured the area.
The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Authorities believe he acted alone.
